Retriever v1.1 App available now
Friday, July 9, 2010 at 06:25AM We are pleased to announce that the 1.1 version of the Rover Retriever application is now available from the iTunes App Store.
This release is built for iOS 4 and includes support for background processing when a user is retrieving large files.
So if your request for that big contract document is taking a long time to come down using an EDGE network, you can switch apps on iOS 4 and perform another task, meanwhile Retriever will continue to download the large PDF in the background.
I live at the periphery of decent 3G networks, so I often find that I’m downloading things on EDGE (which is a lot slower), so this feature comes in very handy for me, even when documents or payloads are not that big, but big enough to take a minute or so to arrive.
The other benefit Retriever offers is that if you lose connection to the cell service (not uncommon), and you were in the middle of downloading a 6MB PDF, is that Retriever will pick up right where it left off as soon as data connectivity is re-established.
This resilience and robustness are part of the distinct advantages of our Patent Pending RoverLink technology. Which when combined with smart client features, allows for very reliable and user-friendly mobile information exchanges.
